Hello ladies, the title of this blog entry is meant figuratively as well as literally. The next few paragraphs you will be introduced to Sheryl Boudy, a retired Social Worker, Entrepreneur, wife, mother, grandmother and to add to these list of titles, Author of popular cookbook "Recipes My Daddy Never Wrote Down". Sheryl's entrepreneurial journey is so intriguing as well as inspiring..... because she started her Brand and wrote her cookbook after being in retirement for a few years. Sheryl said she had a vision and said that she knew she wanted to do something pertaining to food. Her goal was simply to encourage people to cook more. She says that she definitely does not consider herself to be a chef, never having any type of culinary training. Her passion for cooking was derived from her childhood growing up watching her father in the kitchen as he prepared meals for the family. Sheryl along with four of her siblings would often participate in the preparation of these meals. Sheryl noted that her father was the primary cook in their family, because her mother was a teacher and would often have to attend late afternoon meetings, etc. He was an Insurance Agent and therefore had a more flexible schedule. Sheryl says that growing up they would always have home cooked meals.
Sheryl began putting her vision into fruition and collaborated with her son, Chris. Upon doing so, she created the Facebook Group "Sheryl In The Kitchen" in an effort to reach a more universal audience. She then began devising a plan to write her cookbook. Sheryl says the most difficult part of writing her cookbook was her having to be very strategic, measuring each ingredient that goes into making those delectable meals. What makes Sheryl's cookbook so unique, is that each recipe tells a story, a story that is relatable and one that brings us back to our own childhood. Sheryl advised me she is/was her own Marketing and PR person. After her cookbook was published.... (and by they way it's self-published by Sheryl herself), she then began reaching out to the media, such as the local newspapers and local television stations. Sheryl presented her cookbook to two local City Officials, Mayor Latoya Cantrell, Mayor of The City Of New Orleans because she is a lifelong resident of New Orleans..... and also to Joe Peoples who was at that time, the Mayor of The City of Westwego, because she purchases all of her seafood from Dee (stall four) at the Westwego Seafood Market. Sheryl also began reaching out the local news stations and that landed her appearances and cooking segments on WWL Channel 4 with Eric Paulsen, WUPL54 Channel 4..... Great Day Louisiana with Malik Mingo, and also on Fox 8 News with Liz Reyes. Sheryl has been doing regular cooking segments on Fox 8 NOLA going on four years.
During Covid 19 lockdown Sheryl did her early cooking segments from her own kitchen. Her cookbook became so popular that the owner of Roux Royale, a specialty store in the French Quarter, reached out to her wanting to have her cookbook sold in their store. You will find Sheryl's cookbook right next to Chef Paul Prudhomme, Emeril Lagasse and a couple other well known Chefs. Sheryl also does Tic Tok videos which enables her to reach a broader range of audiences.
In my interview with Sheryl, she gives much credit to her mother as well, for her creativity and teaching her to "think outside the box". Her mother's words to her were "never be afraid to ask for what you want". The answer can be only one of two things.... yes or no. Faith is what led Sheryl to her create her Brand, therefore leaving a legacy for her family for years to come. We applaud you Sheryl Boudy for taking that leap..... showing us all that anything is possible when we put our minds to it! It's never too late to achieve and accomplish our dream.....just go for it and walk in FAITH!!
