What best describes this lady at best is the Energizer Bunny! Lynell Wilmore Daggs can definitely be described as a dancing machine, honey! I've known Lynell since our high schools days. We were both on our high school dance team together. Lynell was also a majorette back then, which explains why she still..... can't keep STILL! She has never stop dancing. A wife, mother and grandmother, Lynell continues to stay on the move. She is currently a member of the Houston Senior Rockets Basketball Dance Team in Houston, Texas, and dances in a couple of other capacities as well.
In my interview with Lynell, she noted that she has been dancing with the Houston Rockets Senior Dance Team for about eight years. She advised me that you have to audition each year to become a member of the team, and said that she was not successful in her first two attempts in auditioning to become a part of the team. However, that did not deter her. She was determined to make the team and in that she auditioned for yet a third time. Lo and behold it was that third time..... that was the charm. She said that the Senior Dance Team performs at seven home games per season. Being a part of the team requires her going to practice every Sunday evening for a couple hours or so. Lynell has been a member of the Liturgical Dance Ministry at the St. John Downtown Ministry in Houston, Texas for the past 19 years, the group is called the MOP's Dance of Praise Ministry. Lynell also teaches Senior Fitness. During Covid, Lynell held online Zumba classes with the Ashia Group. Lynell also does Water Aerobics and is a member of L..A. Fitness. Whew, are you guys tired yet? I am getting tired just writing about all that this fabulous senior does.
Challenges, however did not evade Lynell, in 1998 Lynell was diagnosed with breast cancer and then again in 2002, and 2003. She went through the necessary radiation treatments, etc... and then had breast reconstructive surgery. A THREE time...not one but THREE and I emphasize THREE time breast cancer survivor, Lynell is unbelievably remarkable in that she continues to push through with fortitude, grace, and an exorbitant amount of energy and resiliency. In addition, she can often be seen with her grandson...... a rising basketball star at his tournament basketball games, cheering him on and also at the Houston Rockets home games. We salute you Lynell Wilmore Daggs as one our Super Senior S-heros..... showing us that we too can beat the odds in whatever challenges we may face in life and move forward pushing through and coming out victorious! Lynell is very spiritual which is also a definite testimony on how she manages to keep on dancing through her journey of life!
